SCENE 1 On a hot day, Big Bird is hoping to beat the heat. He complains about the hot pavement on his bare feet as Luis fixes an electric fan for Hooper's Store, working outside since it's too hot inside the Fix-it Shop. He sees David's face is all wet and gets a lesson on what perspiration is, learning how it benefits people and how birds can't perspire. Big Bird then encounters Maria, who gets the idea to make piraguas (sno-cones). Big Bird knows of an ice company, and agrees to order some ice while Maria takes care of the Tamarindo-flavored syrup at her place. Big Bird goes over to Hooperโ€™s and orders a big block of ice over the phone, but after the call David reminds Big Bird that he forgot to tell who to bring the ice to.

Maria brings over the syrup to Big Bird at his nest, wondering when the ice will come. Meanwhile, a man named Speedy from the Jiffy Ice Company wanders aimlessly around Sesame Street, looking for whoever ordered the ice block. He learns it wasnโ€™t Bob, who suggests that maybe Luis ordered it. He makes his way to the Fix-it Shop, and Luis suggests that the order was made for Hooper's Store. David informs Speedy who actually made the order and gives him directions to Big Bird's nest. By the time Speedy gets to Big Bird, he has traveled at such a slow pace that the ice block has almost completely melted away, resulting in a small ice cube.
