Zap Mama is a Belgian musical group founded by Marie Daulne. The group specializes in harmonic music, infused with African instruments, R&B. and Hip-hop, and perform in both English and French.
In a 1994 episode of Sesame Street, Zoe points out to the group and some kids that Chicago is sad because he's never been to the jungle. Everyone cheers him up by making jungle sounds.
In a 1998 episode, Big Bird is expecting the group to show him a merry-go-round, so they create one with their voices.
Since their formation, they have worked with the Roots, Erykah Badu and Ladysmith Black Mambazo, to name just a few.
