Zing Zong appeared in the December 1969 Woman's Day magazine story "The Purple-Necked Black-Bearded Blatch," in which she and her twin brother, Zang Zong, inadvertently teach Mr. Figg the true meaning of Christmas. Mr. Figg continually roars at the siblings and attempts to best them through the means of a Purple Necked Black-Bearded Blatch, but the children fall in love with the creature and ultimately give him back to Mr. Figg as a present, teaching him the true meaning of Christmas.
