"You and I and George" is a song written by Red Kelly (who played bass for Stan Kenton's band), that details the romance between "you and I". The song ends with George drowning in a river, "leaving you alone with me."
The original version by Stan Kenton can be found on his live album Kenton Live from the Las Vegas Tropicana. His recording was used on Sam and Friends on September 21, 1961, as lip-synced to by Moldy Hay.[1]
The song would go on to become a signature song for Rowlf the Dog, who performed it on several occasions:
- on The Mike Douglas Show in July 1966
- as the UK Spot in episode 101 of The Muppet Show
- as a nominee for the category "Best Song" in episode 412 of The Muppet Show
- in an appearance on The Merv Griffin Show in 1983
