"You Needed Me" was a hit song for Anne Murray in 1978. Murray sang the song to Big Bird in A Special Sesame Street Christmas, lip synching to her studio reccording. The second verse is cut.

From Murray's album Let's Keep It That Way, the song reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song earned Murray a 1979 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Song of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards. It was also covered by Roger Whitaker.
