William Hootkins (1948-2005) was an American-born character actor who worked extensively in both the states and England. He appeared as a radio announcer in Dreamchild and voiced Falkor and Barktroll in The NeverEnding Story III.
The portly, bearded Hootkins was a staple of genre films, playing Jek Porkins in Star Wars, Munson in Flash Gordon, Major Eaton in Raiders of the Lost Ark, Harry Howler in Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, a taxi driver in The Trail of the Pink Panther and Curse of the Pink Panther, and corrupt Lt. Eckhardt in Batman. Television credits includes guest appearances on Taxi, Blackadder, Remington Steele, Agatha Christie's Partners in Crime and Poirot, and The West Wing. His radio credits included appearances as Lex Luthor in several BBC radio adaptations of Superman. Hootkins also portrayed Alfred Hitchcock in the 2003 play Hitchcock Blonde in London's West End.
