What's the Word on the Street? first appeared in Sesame Streetโs 38th season. Murray Monster hosts this segment which precedes the corporate sponsor spots before each episode. He speaks with folks about what today's word means and instructs the audience to listen for its usage in the following episode. The word is later featured in the "street scenes" and highlighted again as the Word of the Day.
