The song was co-written by Garth Brooks after the 1992 riots in Los Angeles. The song reached #12 on the country charts but was not a great success by his standards at the time. Some controversy surrounded the line "When we're free to love anyone we choose," which was interpreted as a reference to gay relationships. Garth included the song on his only greatest hits compilation, "The Hits."
