"We Shall Be Free" is sung by Garth Brooks and the Muppets in episode 102 of Muppets Tonight. Rowlf, in his first speaking appearance since Jim Henson's death, played piano.

The song was co-written by Garth Brooks after the 1992 riots in Los Angeles. The song reached #12 on the country charts but was not a great success by his standards at the time. Some controversy surrounded the line "When we're free to love anyone we choose," which was interpreted as a possible reference to gay relationships. Garth included the song on his only greatest hits compilation, "The Hits."
