Virginia Schone was a writer and author of educational materials who was part of the early development of Sesame Street. During the process of choosing a name for the program, she presented a list of titles compiled from daycare sessions, and Sesame Street was the one selected.[1] Schone shared in an Emmy Award for outstanding writing in children's programming for the first episode.
Schone had written for television as early as 1956, on the staff of the variety series Of All Things. She wrote educational filmstrips for Guidance Associates and authored the children's short story collection Penny Tales (1977).
