The 1996 film Muppet Treasure Island is a Muppet adaptation of the story. Tim Curry starred as Long John Silver, with Kevin Bishop as Jim Hawkins,Gonzo and Rizzo appearing as Jim's friends, Kermit the Frog as Captain Smollett, Fozzie Bear as Squire Trelawney, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew as Dr. Livesey, and Miss Piggy as Benjamina Gunn.

In 1977, John Cleese appeared as Long John Silverstein in The Muppet Show episode 223, invading the Swinetrek in a "Pigs in Space" sketch.

The Sesame Street Storytime Calendar 1982 spoofed the story, with Count von Count playing Long John Silver.

The July/August 1989 issue of Sesame Street Magazine showed Ernie on the beach, reading Treasure Island.

Baby Gonzo played Long John Silver, with Baby Kermit as Jim Hawkins, in the 1990 book Muppet Babies' Classic Children's Tales.
