- Between 1977 and 1978, major newspapers across the United States ran advertisements for Sesame Street merchandise with a one-panel illustration featuring Oscar the Grouch and the Toys Я Us mascot Geoffrey the Giraffe. With a hand on Oscar's trash can, Geoffrey exclaims, "Hey Oscar! It's really neat Toys Я Us has Sesame Street toys."
- When the store opened at New York City's Times Square on November 17, 2001, a character parade featured many walkaround characters including Bert, Ernie, and Elmo walk-arounds.[1][2]
- Kevin Clash and Elmo appeared at the 2003 Toys R' Us Children's Fund.
- An Elmo walk-around appeared in the 2003 Toys R' Us Holiday Parade.
- Uncle Traveling Matt nears a Toys Я Us sign in the second "Journey to the Macy's Parade" web video (tied to the 2022 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade). The brand name was revived for a store-in-store partnership with Macy's.
