DEBUT 1972
PATTERN Large Lavender Live Hand

Tough Eddie is an apparently tough guy who turns out to have a heart of gold.

He first appeared on Sesame Street in a 1972 episode, when he places a bag of bricks on top of Oscar's trash can. When Oscar grouchily tells the kid to leave, Tough Eddie lets him know that he should have asked "nicely". Oscar is outraged, but when he tries and fails to remove the bricks himself, he realizes that Tough Eddie really is tough! As he leaves, Tough Eddie tells Oscar that as soon as he delivers his bricks, he'll be back "with something to say." Oscar realizes that he doesn't want to be alone when Eddie gets back. His friends soon join him to await Tough Eddie.

Eddie also appears in a sketch with Ernie and Bert at the beach. Eddie accidentally knocks over Bert's sand castle while he's sleeping. Ernie points that out to Eddie, and Eddie tells Ernie, in a threatening tone of voice, that he's "got something" for Bert. It turns out to be an ice cream cone.

In the early eighties, Tough Eddie appeared in a street story. In this episode, a new kid has moved to the neighborhood and Tough Eddie refuses to play with him, until Gordon manages to convince Eddie that he shouldn't exclude people just because they don't know him. For this appearance, Richard Hunt performed Eddie.
