"To Sing a Simple Song," or "Simple Song," was written and originally recorded by folk singer Jim Dawson for his 1971 solo album Songman.
The song appeared on the Sesame Street album Elmo's Favorite Sing-Alongs, with new child-friendly lyrics about unity. It was sung by Big Bird, Elmo, Bert, Oscar the Grouch, Grover, Hoots the Owl, and the Kids. Dawson also plays acoustic guitar on the album.
