Thomas Edison (1847-1931) was an American scientist and inventor. Among his most famous inventions are the phonograph, the motion picture camera, and a long-lasting light bulb. During his lifetime Edison held 1,093 U.S. patents, and he originated the concept and implementation of electric-power generation and distribution to homes and businesses.
