Thomas Barbour with Anita Gillette on Sesame Street

Thomas Barbour (1921-2005) was a New York-based actor and playwright who appeared in Sesame Street Episode 2269 as a passing gentleman undisturbed by Oscar the Grouch.

Barbour was often cast as men of status (patricians, upper clergy, judges, doctors). He was in the original cast of several Broadway plays, including The Great White Hope (with James Earl Jones), and busy off-Broadway (Shakespeare and The Lady's Not for Burning, among others).

As a character actor, Barbour appeared in films shot in New York, notably playing Dudley Moore's father in Arthur and Arthur 2: On the Rocks, while other credits include Legal Eagles and Suspect (both as judges), The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (NY Transit Authority chairman), and The Age of Innocence. TV appearances include The Defenders, The Adams Chronicles, Another World, The Nurses, and New York Undercover.
