The Wise Man appears in Telly's storybook The Man Who Couldn't Sleep, seen in the 1997 Sesame Street video Quiet Time. The Wise Man operates out of a booth (with a Lucy-esque "The Wise Man Is In" sign) and counsels a sleep-deprived man (played by Telly).

The Wise Man's remedy for the problem (insomnia caused by wind and trees) is to get a cow. When that only adds to the noise, the Wise Man advises him to get a turkey. The Wise Man's third suggestion is to get a sheep. The man is justifiably frustrated, but the Wise Man suggests he get rid of all the animals. He does so and can sleep at last.
