Vision-of-Jim-Henson-Hamburg1995

1995 German poster.

The Vision of Jim Henson was an exhibit launched in the mid-1990s which toured the United States and some countries in Europe, including Germany (1994-1998) and Spain, into the year 2002. When the exhibit reached the University of Maryland in 1997, it was incorporated into a larger event titled "The Muppets Take Maryland."

The traveling version of the exhibit included several characters on display, including a full-size Big Bird puppet; televisions showing clips of Henson's various productions, as well as footage from interviews and documentaries; examples of Muppet photography and artwork, including a recreation of "The Marriage of Froggo Amphibini and Giopiggi Porculini" (from the Kermitage Collection) with poser puppets; and a hands-on puppet stage that allowed visitors to try their hand at puppeteering, complete with television monitors and a soundtrack of Muppet music to encourage lip-synching.

In Germany, a selection of puppets from Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, Fraggle Rock, The Secret Life of Toys, The Animal Show and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were on display. Several puppets got exchanged throughout the tour, and Miss Piggy received a few costume changes. Instead of the full-size Big Bird, older puppets of Samson and Tiffy were shown.
