Typewriter-Clear

An animated typewriter with eyes and arms, and mobile wheels appeared on Sesame Street beginning in Season 7. Typewriter Guy would demonstrate letters by typing out the letter, and a word beginning with it, on himself. He often fumbled, which frustrated him. Typewriter Guy's most notable dialogue, apart from announcing the letter and the word, was his trademark "Noo-nee-noo-nee-noo" sounds. Twenty-six shorts were produced, one for each letter of the alphabet, and continued to appear on Sesame Street as late as Season 35.

The Typewriter Guy segments were animated by Jeff Hale for Imagination Inc. [1]

In 2007, new Typewriter Guy shorts were produced for the Old School: Volume 2 DVD set. Joey Mazzarino provided the character's voice for these segments.

Old School: Volume 2

OStypewriter-oldschool

Typewriter Guy later appeared in special openings and closings that appear in Old School: Volume 2 (now voiced by Joey Mazzarino). These new segments were made by Wachtenheim/Marianetti, who also produced several TV Funhouse cartoons for Saturday Night Live.

Introduction: Typewriter Guy sees a computer which says (like in Old School: Volume 1) that these early Sesame Street episodes are intended for grown-ups and may not suit the needs of today's preschool child. He unplugs the computer, and types "Old School."
Closing: Typewriter Guy plays Pong on his computer. Unfortunately, he loses and crossly storms off (with the computer behind him).
Introduction: Typewriter Guy types the letter "h". Then, he notices a few strands of hair growing on him. He types "hair" and grows more hair all over his body.
Closing: Typewriter Guy changes the word to "haircut." Unfortunately, the scissors were too swift for him.
Introduction: Typewriter Guy types "s—suit" and gets a big, light blue suit.
Closing: Typewriter Guy now types "suitcase." Unfortunately, the suitcase comes to life and scares him away.
Introduction: Typewriter Guy types "macho," and a muscular man appears.
Closing: Typewriter Guy changes "macho" to "nacho".
Introduction: Typewriter Guy types "disco" and starts dancing. Unfortunately, he lost his balance and slipped.
Closing: Typewriter Guy now types "disco ball." Unfortunately again, the disco ball accidentally knocked him out.
