The Smashing Pumpkins is a group that Gonzo recommends as a "Lollapalosers" act on Muppets Tonight in episode 210. While Clifford is initially skeptical of Gonzo's act, he becomes excited when he hears their name and gives the green light for their performance.

Unfortunately, these Smashing Pumpkins are not the famous band. They are instead actual pumpkins, who Big Mean Carl destroys with a club during their rendition of "Hot Diggity (Dog Ziggity Boom)." When Carl goes to destroy the third pumpkin, he begs for mercy; he's not a pumpkin after all...he's a squash. It turns out that being a squash is good enough for Carl, who pursues him offstage and into the KMUP control room.

The two pumpkins also appeared in the Virmup video "Cårven Der Pümpkîn".
