The Sad Family, from Miserable Falls, Colorado, are contestants for Guy Smiley's game show Happiness Begins at 40. They enter the studio crying dramatically, but grandly, when counting up 40, they become happier once again.

The father is played by Jerry Nelson and the mother by David Rudman. The son is performed by Richard Hunt, and the daughter by Camille Bonora.
