The Million Puppet March (occasionally dubbed the "Million Muppet March") was a protest against Presidential candidate Mitt Romney's plans to cancel government funds towards public television, including Sesame Street. The march took place at the National Mall in Washington D.C. on November 3rd, 2012, three days before the presidential elections.
Chris Mecham and Michael Bellavia individually came up with the idea for a protest march in response to the presidential debate. Bellavia bought a web domain after Mecham made a Facebook page, coincidentally under the same name. All attendees were encouraged to bring a puppet.
