- "The First Time It Happens" was nominated for an Academy Award in 1982 for Best Music, Original Song. It lost to "Arthur's Theme" from the movie Arthur.
- This was the only one of the first three Muppet films not to be nominated for Best Music, Original Song Score. It most likely would have been nominated but that category was not awarded in 1982, probably because there were not enough films to qualify for the category.
