The AL-1995 Plus Tax

The AL-1995 Plus Tax was introduced by First Mate Piggy in a Pigs in Space: Deep Dish Nine sketch from episode 108 of Muppets Tonight.

In an attempt to show off the new crew member to the officers on the bridge of the Swinetrek, Piggy asks the computer to calculate 2+2. Even though it is the latest in supercomputers, AL takes some time to compute the equation, playing the Jeopardy theme in the meantime. After the ship is invaded by Princess Vendela, AL finally spits out the correct answer and compliments Piggy on the shoes she is beating him with.

The name, design, and demeanor of the computer (save for its inability to perform simple equations) are a reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey’s HAL 9000 (often later referenced in many science fiction stories calling for an "evil robot" plot, such as The Bionic Woman’s ALEX 7000).
