"That Old Black Magic" is an American pop-standard, which was a number one hit for Glenn Miller in 1943. Several subsequent recordings have charted on the Billboard top 30. It has been associated with the Muppets since they got their start in the 1950s.
Kermit and Sam lip-synched to a recording of this song by Louis Prima and Keely Smith in an episode of Sam and Friends, "Old Black Magic." Kermit wore a brown haired wig in this sketch and took the female role. They performed the sketch again during an appearance on The Today Show.
The song was also performed by Sweetums and Cher in her variety show.
Jaye P. Morgan sang this song with Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem in The Muppet Show episode 218, which is introduced by Scooter instead of Kermit .
