Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a movie based on the popular comic book of the same name, about a group of crime-fighting reptiles who lived in a sewer.
Initially, Jim Henson was reluctant to allow his Creature Shop to design the characters for this movie, due to the violence level of the film. Eventually he relented as a favor to the film's director, Steve Barron, who had directed episodes of The Storyteller.
The Creature Shop also provided the creatures for the sequel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, but did not provide the creatures for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III or the live-action series that followed a few years later.
