Last Name[]

With the recent discussion on the wiki about the use of "the" for characters names, as well as the topic of whether names for unnamed characters were official (I.E., names in scripts, names labled in design sketches, etc.) or not (I.E., fan-created names for characters based on a discription or personality), I have started to wonder if there are any official sources for Timmy's last name being Monster. In te one episode where he is mentioned by name, he is just called Timmy. His name could be Timmy Monster, or Timmy the Monster, or Timmy Whitmire, or whatever. After all, while most of the Sesame Street Monsters have Monster as their last names, none of the other monsters from The Muppet Show use Monster as their last name (as far as we know). Sweetums is not called Sweetums Monster, and Thog has never been refferred to as Thog Monster. Is there an official Henson source for his name being Timmy Monster, or should we change this article to Timmy (Monster)? --Minor muppetz 20:11, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

I agree. Adding the last name Monster is as bad as adding a "the Monster" to the end. We don't have "Elmo Monster", we shouldn't make up names just because they are a monster. Whereas some are legit (Telly Monster, Cookie Monster...) some aren't. I think we should look at all the monsters (including the Sesame Street Monster) ending with "Monster" and if there is no source for it either remove the monster or, if needed for disambiguation purposes, put it in parenthesis.
Is there a source for "Timmy Monster" or did we concoct that based on the fact that he's a monster that was named Timmy? -- Brad D. (talk) 23:04, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
I don't have it handy, but the book The Art of the Muppets had a photo of Dave Goelz in the Timmy costume. It might be worth checking what the book used. Andrew Leal (talk) 23:34, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
I think that Elmo actually was refferred to as "Elmo Monster" by the mail carier a few times in Elmo's World: Happy Holidays. --Minor muppetz 23:57, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, The Art of the Muppets, it's in a photo caption: "Dave Goelz suiting up as Timmy Monster, with Thog on the right." I think that's a reasonable source. -- Danny (talk) 00:04, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Also worth noting is the fact that in the Carol Channing episode of The Muppet Show, the same one in which he gets his name, Scooter refers to him as "Timmy Monster" in the last backstage scene. --Dave 04:14, February 19, 2011 (UTC)
