Been meaning to park this for awhile. From the Boston Bozo's Big Top series, around mid 1960s, Caroll Spinney played this character, called "Murgatroyd," in one skit. It's the same concept as the Floating Face/Nobody, only on a larger scale (the facial features are bigger foam pieces, and Murgatroyd eats a fake pie on a normal-sized paper plate) and with only the black screen, no film (since this was live kid's TV). Probably Jim Henson's version came first, possibly Spinney saw it at a festival, quite likely it was just pure coincidence (especially since the real innovation for Henson was less the puppetry than the combination with the film footage to create a mindscape). But they're similar enough that I thought it work posting here (possibly even worth a trivia note in the article, but I'm not sure on that). -- Andrew Leal (talk) 19:01, March 7, 2012 (UTC)
