The Sesame Beginning is a new line of products and a video series, spun-off the children's television series Sesame Street. The line is targeted towards infants and their parents, and products are designed to increase family interactivity.

The line was launched mid-2005 in Canada, with a line of products exclusive to a family of Canadian retailers that includes Loblaws, Fortinos, and Zehrs.zehrs The initial offering included apparel, health and body, home, and seasonal products.

This article could use some clean-up, expansion and work. A better description of the show (episode format, features, etc.), information on the Sesame Beginnings books and other merchandise, possibly information on the controversy surrounding targeting infants, plus information on the initial creation/genesis of the videos. Additionally many of the articles on the individual characters & videos could use some work (from someone with the videos) to help expand and move away from being just "press kit" quotes and the basic info taken from retailer listings. -- Brad D. (talk) 05:41, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

This doesn't belong in the Sesame video categories, as it's really the descriptor of a marketing theme which includes videos, books and plush. I can think of placing it at least in :Category:Character Groups, but I figure it can fit elsewhere, and I wouldn't want to see it get lost in just that one spot. Thoughts? — Scott (talk) 14:32, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Soon after, the line expanded to products, including Random House books, available in the United States. Target is the primary retailer for the items in the US. Other Sesame Beginnings licensors include Crown Crafts (bedding), Fisher-Price (infant toys), BBC (footware), Children's Apparel Network (department and specialty store layette, newborn and infant apparel), Hamco, Blue Ridge, Baby Boom, and AD Sutton.

::I went ahead and removed character groups, which I don't think really works. There's a group of characters *in* the series, but the collective name for the group wouldn't be "Sesame Beginnings," anymore than "The Muppet Show" would be a character group in itself, unless it's used as a name for the parents group or whatnot in the actual videos, and if so, that's not made clear. I think the others are sufficient aide in finding the page anyway. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 14:39, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
All products in the Sesame Beginnings line are ranked on a scale of 1 to 5. Products ranked Level 1 are for birth to 6 months, Level 2 are for 6 to 12 months, Level 3 for 12 to 18 months, Level 4 targets 18 to 24 months, and Level 5 aims for 24-36 months.

Sherrie Westin, Executive Vice President, Sesame Workshop comments: "Our own research showed that Sesame Street videos were among those frequently viewed by the under two set, in spite of the fact that the content and curriculum of Sesame Street is designed for ages 2-5. With the Sesame Beginnings DVDs, we're providing parents and caregivers of children under two with content specifically designed to use media as a tool to further adult/child interaction."westin

The same "underviewing" of Sesame Street is what had earlier inspired show producers to add in the very young-targeted Elmo's World segment.

The concept of the Sesame Street cast as babies was not entirely new, as "baby-ized" versions of characters were available as toys since at least the early-2000s. Many likened the line to previous series like Muppet Babies.

I can think of placing it at least in Category:Character Groups, but I figure it can fit elsewhere, and I wouldn't want to see it get lost in just that one spot. Nevermind, I forgot about the two other cats that we have which I just added. With over 500 of them, it's hard to remember them all. — Scott (talk) 14:35, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
I went ahead and removed character groups, which I don't think really works.

Why not? Radar and Rubber Duckie are notable characters. I didn't add him to the list, but it's cute. Note the cast list is formatted by character first, not performer. If you don't like it or don't feel he's used enough to justify it, feel free to remove him. But here, we aren't biased towards puppet characters only.
