Did anyone ever market a muppy or a rufus? They are adorable! --69.143.31.101 05:28, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

What's the source on Rufus being Muppy's predecessor. They really don't look much alike at all, aside from being white dogs. Even the fur is different. -- Peter (talk) 17:10, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
- Danny made the contribution as such, back in December...
The original "fluffy white dog" puppet was Rufus, in the 1970 fairytale special Hey Cinderella. The puppet was rebuilt for The Muppet Show with a more realistic looking face, so that a real dog could play him in long shots. (The producers used the same trick a few years later with Foo-Foo.)
- I'll ask him what his source was. — Scott (talk) 22:07, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
- I think they look exactly the same. Fluffy white dog that doesn't speak. Rufus was a recurring character in the early 70s -- Land of Tinkerdee, Hey Cinderella, Muppet Valentine Show. Two years later, there's another non-speaking fluffy white dog in TMS. It seems obvious to me that Muppy is the next generation of Rufus.
- Yeah, I'm not comfortable with it if there's no source. They really don't look alike to me at all. If it were just the eyes and nose being changed, then that would work for me, but the fur on the puppet is so different between Rufus and Muppy. Rufus' hair is very straight, whereas Muppy's is really shaggy. They're obviosuly not based on the same puppet, so I think saying that the puppet was rebuilt is misleading. -- Peter (talk) 19:13, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- It wouldn't suprise me if Muppy and Rufus were the same puppet with different features. There's no point in spending the money on a white shaggy dog puppet if the workshop already had one. They tend to reuse puppets for many many years. Scooter 01:59, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
