Talk:Leonie Löwenherz

Muppet?

Actually, it occurs to me to ask, should Leonie, or Uli Von Bödefeld, really be classified as Muppet Characters? They're international Sesame Street characters certainly, but as even their articles state, they were neither designed nor built by Henson/Muppet Workshop. They should still stick around, as they (well, Bodefeld anyway) were an important part of the show's history, but it seems to me they're like Mano, outside puppets brought in. At least with the Puppet Up! debate there was the fact that the puppets were made by the same company/designers, it was just a question of legal terms and so on. Here, I'd say they just ain't Muppets. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 06:54, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I don't think of them as Muppets, and even as a kid watching the show, I always kinda knew that there was a difference. Frog knows why, but they had a different feel to them. They're both though, like you say, well remembered Sesamstrasse characters. Uli Von Bödefeld's popularity factor is probably right up there with Kermit's for many 25+ year olds in good old Deutschland, and they would (without knowing better), call him a Muppet. But yeah, ignorance shouldn't be considered on the Wiki.
Aren't there lots of other (rather odd looking) Sesame characters from international co-productions from the 1970s, that didn't have too much to do with the Jim Henson Company or the Workshop? What category do those fall in? ---- Julian (talk) 07:20, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Well, we can either just yank out the Muppet designation and otherwise leave them where they are (as Category:International Sesame Street Characters), or replace the category with a new grouping. I can't think of a title right now that isn't awkward, though, outside of "International Puppets" or something equally vague. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 07:29, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
