Talk:Java
From Muppet Wiki
I don't seem to have an edit tab for this page, but according to the TV.com article on the Ethel Merman episode Java was "composed by Freddy Friday, Marilyn Schack, Allen Toussaint, and Alvin O. Tyler. It's from Al Hirt's album 'Honey in the Horn.'" Wiesnerc 00:46, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'd protected that a while ago to save from an unnecessary edit war.
- I'm not so sure about TV.com's information. They seem to be about the same as IMDb when it comes to reliabilty. Upon a Google search, another site claims that Toussaint (who our article currently cites as composer) shared credit with Red Tyler and Marilyn Schack. Java is a pretty simple, yet interpretice jazzy tune. It's my guess that each time it was performed, whoever worked on it in some capacity tacked their name on. But Toussaint seems to be the one consistent credit. Additionally, Hirt's album appears to have been the first time the song became a hit, however it is not its original source. The earliest date I can find for Java is 1958, while Hirt didn't record it until 1964. -- Scott (talk) 01:19, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
