origins

Does anyone know why fish in particular were chosen for this role in the film? I was just listening to the audio book of Douglas Adams' The Salmon of Doubt and it contained a quote from him stating that his favorite natural structure was "A giant 2,000 mile long fish in orbit around Jupiter, according to a reliable reporter in the Weekly World News. The photograph was very convincing." (From an interview with Virgen.net apparently)

I can't find the original WWN article, but this person who asked about it got linked to some stuff about theoretical fish surrounding Jupiter: http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100215074907AAe23yB

Is this a widely known theory/hoax? Could it be the origin of the comedic Cosmic Fish? Am I bored at work? Well, at least I know the answer to one of those questions.Wiesnerc (talk) 21:11, July 20, 2012 (UTC)

That's an interesting observation. Cosmic Fish does sound like a Douglas Adams thing. I wonder if anyone would have a memory of how that came about when the writers were coming up with ideas for the movie. —Scott (message me) 02:02, July 21, 2012 (UTC)
