Perceived as Dangerous?Edit

I've only seen Convincing John's first appearance, but I'm a bit unsure about this sentence: Other Fraggles view Convincing John as possessing a dangerous power. The Fraggles perceive him as having a power for persuasion, yes, and the fact that it's dangerous is communicated to viewers, but do the Fraggles themselves ever fully recognize the danger or perceive Convincing John as dangerous? They certainly don't in his debut appearance. Grant, or any other Fraggle archivists, thoughts? --Andrew, Aleal 01:52, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

Maybe dangerous is the wrong word. But Gobo and Wembley are certainly chilled by the mention of his name in his debut episode, and Red is quite reluctant to go and see him. And I think Boober makes some comment about danger in the "Secret" episode. I guess what I was trying to say was that they see his power as very, well, powerful, and are sometimes kind of apprehensive about it. --GrantHarding 01:55, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

I think such a wording would be better then, i.e. "occasionally seem apprehensive" or in awe of his power. They're definitely in awe of Convincing John, that's made clear, but if they truly perceived and recognized him as a dangerous threat, I think they'd be more than just apprehensive about approaching him, but treat him more in the manner they do the Gorgs or Poison Cacklers or creatures they do explictly perceieve as dangerous. I just don't get a sense that the characters perceive him as "dangerous" in the same way that the writers or the viewers did. --Andrew, Aleal

I tweaked the wording, as we seem to agree on "Awe and slight apprehension," though feel free to add anything else for context. Actually, reading the bit about "Secret of Convincing John", "Wemble" might make for an interesting Fraggle culture article (if there's aspects to it, such as here, that apply and have a history beyond Wembley being named for the trait). --Andrew, Aleal 02:35, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
