Talk:Caponata

Big Bird?

I'm a little confused. Was Caponata just the name of a female Big Bird on the Spanish Sesame Street? The article is worded very strangely. -- Peter (talk) 17:27, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

No, I'm afraid my English is not good enough to explain that. Caponata was a Spanish Muppet physically similar to Big Bird. However, they have different personalities, different mannerisms, and of course different friends. Caponata was also supposed to be a chicken. Other countries also feature Big Bird lookalikes, usually with a different color. Caponata was yellow like Big Bird, but she wasn't Big Bird. I don't know if that was what you meant. So Caponata looks exactly like Big Bird but is a different character. Is the picture on the character page of Caponata or of Big Bird? It doesn't look like a picture taken in the late 70s/early 80s. -- Peter (talk) 19:41, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
Yes, mostly so. Caponata looks exactly like B.B. in a photograph, but she does not move like him or talk like him (I've watched both Barrio Sésamo with Caponata, and Sesame Street with Big Bird). Skippy Farlstendoiro 06:43, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
About the picture, I found it illustrating an article on Caponata, and I think it was Caponata, I had no doubts till now. However, if you think it is not, I'll try to find a different one. Skippy Farlstendoiro 06:43, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
The photo is definitely Caponata from the 1979-1980 series. Caponata did not look quite like Big Bird, and certainly didn't move or sound like him. However, as of 2006, Bird Bird is now called Caponata in Spain, which is sure to cause confusion. I've noted this name change in the article. -- Steven Capsuto, 07:06, 07 December 2006 (UTC)
