TV Danmark

The channel has gone through many changes over the years, it's currently owned by SBS. Originally the channel was a network of local stations around Denmark. In the late 1980's the Danish law about local television changed and it was made possible that the local stations could network more than they did before so they founded TV Danmark as a common brand. In the mid 1990's the owner SBS created a new satellite channel that meant a name change to TV Danmark 2 for the channel. TV Danmark 1 had a short life span, shortly after it's creation the channel moved to London, with the sole purpose of airing commercials during programs, something the Danish laws prevents. Tv Danmark 1, then changed to Kanal 5. TV Danmark 2 continued it's broadcasting with less and less time air time for the local channels. The channel went through a few more name changes . The name changed to Kanal 4, for a short time to streamline the SBS brand. In the early 2000's the brand Kanal 4 was moved to London, just like Kanal 5, and the old TV Danmark channel was changed into SBS Net. In 2009 the channel changed the name again this time to Kanal 6 or 6'eren as it's also called, the reason behind the change was the change to digital signal and the local television will be given a new channel on their own along with TV 2's regional stations. This gave SBS a chance to relaunch the channel as a action channel or Denmark's new channel for men as they promote it, fitting in with the other two channels they have, a general purpose channel (Kanal 5) and womens channel (Kanal 4).
