"St. Louis Blues" (sometimes listed as "The St. Louis Blues" or "Saint Louis Blues") is a classic jazz piece, blending aspects of ragtime into the blues. Due to this and other compositions, composer W. C. Handy was nicknamed "The Father of the Blues." The song was recorded by Fats Waller, Cab Calloway, Rudy Vallee, and Louis Armstrong, among many others.
On The Muppet Show, in Episode 413, it was performed by Dizzy Gillespie, singing vocals and playing trumpet solo, backed by Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. The song is a lament, as the singer's loved one has been seduced by a St. Louis woman with her store bought hair.
