SpongeBob SquarePants is an animated series that debuted on Nickelodeon on 1999 and soon became one of the channel's lynchpin series.

- In It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie, while watching Kermit's flight on a video screen, the Boss tells Daniel he's "just lucky SpongeBob isn't on."
- Sesame Street spoofed the series through Bob's alter-ego, Trianglebob Trianglepants.
