Soupy Sales as the Pied Piper, with Rufus

Soupy Sales (b. Milton Supman, 1926-2009) was a comedian and actor best remembered as the host of the children's television show Lunch with Soupy Sales, where Sales would often receive a pie in the face.

Sales was the host (and title character) of the 1968 television special The Pied Piper of Astroworld, on which the Muppets, including Rowlf the Dog, were guest stars. He also was a panelist on What's My Line? when Jim Henson and Kermit the Frog were celebrity contestants. During that appearance, Sales made a passing reference to being friends with Henson.

Other credits include television guest spots on The Love Boat, The Bob Hope Show, Saturday Night Live, and Hollywood Squares, guest hosting The Tonight Show, and the Broadway comedy Come Live With Me.

Frank Sinatra signed Sales to his record label, and two records were produced. Sales also recorded a novelty dance record with his song "The Mouse", with the B side of the record containing the song "Pachalafaka".

  • In the Elmo's World episode "Bath Time," the Bathtime Channel advises viewers to stay tuned for "Bath Masterson", starring Soapy Sales.
