Sneak Peek Previews

From Muppet Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Sneak Peek Previews was a Sesame Street segment in which Oscar the Grouch and Telly Monster sat in a movie theater and reviewed films (actually, segments from Sesame Street). Telly gave the films a number of "wows" while Oscar gave them "phooeys." Telly would usually end up sitting in a broken chair, causing him to spill his popcorn all over the place.

The segment was inspired by the television show Sneak Previews hosted by Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert. On that show, Siskel and Ebert reviewed movies and gave them "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" ratings.

This format was used in the video Sing Yourself Sillier at the Movies.

Segments

Ernie and Bert watch "Sneak Peek Previews," where Oscar and Telly review the "Song of Ten." After the review, Ernie, inspired by the baker from the skit, holds ten cakes, which are glued together. Oscar and Telly then give their opinions on Ernie's prank.
  • Some, more and most
Telly and Oscar watch a cartoon about kids with various lengths of hair. Back in the theatre, Oscar demonstrates the same concept with Telly's bucket of popcorn.
  • Making a drum
Oscar and Telly watch a live-action short about some kids who find an oil drum which is turned into a musical drum.
  • Thumbs up and thumbs down
Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel appear to demonstrate their rating system to Oscar and Telly.
Oscar and Telly watch an all Grouch interpretation of Fiddler on the Roof.
