The seven-foot-tall talking carrot is a character who originally appeared in episode 304 of The Muppet Show. He performs "I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major General" and other selections from The Pirates of Penzance with Gilda Radner.
Radner had apparently written to Kermit before the show, requesting a seven-foot-tall talking parrot for her musical number; however, Kermit did not understand her handwriting and mistakenly booked a carrot. This is a reference to the plot of The Pirates of Penzance, in which the main character's father wanted him to be a pilot, but he misheard this and became a pirate instead.
The carrot is featured in The Muppets Character Encyclopedia.
