Sesame Afternoon Play is a half-hour version of Sesame Street introduced in fall 2014 on both PBS and digital platforms. The release coincides with the debut of season 45. The program airs on weekday afternoons (complementing the one-hour episodes that air in the mornings) and weekend mornings on PBS; additionally, select episodes of the 30-minute show are available for free online viewing on pbskids.org/video, on the PBS KIDS Video App and on the PBS KIDS Roku channel.
According to a press release: "each half-hour episode of Sesame Street is a shortened version of each one-hour program and will include a “Street Story,” a “Word on the Street” segment, a celebrity vocabulary segment, songs, spoofs, dance breaks and popular segments like “Cookie's Crumby Pictures” or “Super Grover 2.0.”[1]
Starting in the fall of 2015, the regular Sesame Street show fits the mold of the "Afternoon Play" airings and shortens its running time from an hour to a half-hour.[2] Additionally, future new episodes (starting with Season 46) will be a half-hour instead of a full hour.
