There are four seasons in the year as a result of the Earth's axial tilt in relation to the Sun. They are most commonly observed to mark the change in weather which varies according to the regions of the planet. As most holidays throughout the year fall on or near the same day annually, they are often associated with the season they fall within. For example, in the northern hemisphere, Christmas is most commonly thought of as one of several "winter holidays", while the 4th of July in the United States is seen as a "summer holiday". Seasons are typically marked on most calendars, many of which are themed after expected seasonal weather patterns.
