Sesame Street's 44th season is set to begin airing on September 16, 2013[1]. The season began production on September 20, 2012, and wrapped on December 14[2]. The second half of season 43 was also filmed during this production period.[2] Additional inserts were filmed in late April and May.[2] The "What's the Word on the Street?" and other tune-in segments began filming in May 2013.[3]
Season overview
The season's focus will be on Hispanic heritage, and will feature a new recurring Hispanic human picked from an open audition session held in August 2012.[4] Armando, played by Ismael Cruz Córdova, will debut as the show's newest human addition.[5] The season will also deal with topics regarding self-regulation (coping with emotions and self-control) and executive function skills.[6]
"Elmo the Musical" will return this season, featuring five new episodes.[7] The season will also feature a new segment starring Cookie Monster to promote executive functioning skills.[8]
The season will also feature parodies of the hit shows Homeland (portrayed as "Homelamb") and Sons of Anarchy (as "Sons of Poetry").[6]
Muppeteer Tyler Bunch reported on his Twitter account the season will include posthumous work by Jerry Nelson[9] and will feature a special tribute to him.[6]
