Dog That City

Grrr. Remember I told you that checking Amazon for Dog City updates could be worthwhile? Well, with all the tooth stuff and other situations spanning several weeks, I hadn't looked in awhile. On November 9th, they added the previously unlisted episode "Future Schlock," and they show that users with "similar interests" purchased it (and they may even have re-added the recycling one too), but both are now gone. I wish Amazon had an e-mail notification system for this kind of thing (and I wrote in to suggest it, even.) Well, such is life. Assuming I *don't* miss the next window (and I'm not sure why it's only affecting these two episodes), I'll let you know as soon as possible. Golden Books Images?

IMDb policy

Tired, hurting (mouth hasn't finished healing yet), and have jury duty in the morning, but a thought for the policy sandbox. We're *constantly* having to explain on talk pages that IMDb, taken by itself, is *not* a reliable source and generally means nothing. It comes up so often and it really is a policy since it affects the accuracy of pages. If I feel like it, I'll work it in later. Basically, "IMDb and Wikipedia are generally not sources when it comes to Muppet/Henson productions. Such information should only be added or entries only brought up if they are confirmed by screen credits, presskits, or other reliable outside sources. Otherwise, it generally reflects what an unknown user *thinks* is correct, and in many cases reflects rumors, guesses, or even personal fantasies and outright nonsense." I'll work on it more when I feel better, but it would definitely be easier to just point to a policy instead of explaining over and over *why* we don't trust IMDb in these areas. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 02:02, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Oh yeah, that's a good one. I'll add it to the page and we can work on it later. I've mostly just tried to focus on collecting the ones that have come up and link back to where we've discussed them for now. It's come up often, but never in a current events discussion, just on a ton of talk pages (and in some edits), reminding users that IMDb is not a reliable source. The section could also cover Muppet Newsflash or other sites that are either user submitted or fail to cite sources. Probably wouldn't fit in a policy section (probably a seperate page or maybe something akin to the old "Things to Do" page, listing sites with useful information which is sourced and may not have been fully tapped yet), but a nice addendum, for those not able to get their DVDs out, would be to point out reliable sites maybe with some comments: InBaseline, British Film Institute Database (less complete on TV but they have a full-time staff that vets everything and the film credits come straight from the screen and usually appear in their film journal and books; some omission sometimes of, say, sound editors or some technical classes, but everything that is there is correct, and they're more complete and in credits order as opposed to IMDb), Sesame Workshop of course and any puppeteer official sites, and there's probably others that will come to mind when I'm feeling better. In fact, some puppeteer/cast member sites update more than others and not all have been fully utilized yet, so a list would probably be useful (or to agency sites with resumes and demos). Hmmm. Yeah, definitely a seperate sandbox project for another day (probably "Muppet Wiki Resources" or something, which could encompass print books too; we had a small version of that in one of the old help pages way back, I think it's gone now). -- Andrew Leal (talk) 03:26, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, that's why I called it Policies and Guidelines so we can cover both. I want one place to be able to point people to as a guideline of what to do and not to do. Aha! A PS before turning in. I found Talk:Roscoe Lee Browne, which lists two textbook examples of why IMDb can't be trusted for our purposes. The Browne one has since been removed, but George Lucas as an extra in Follow That Bird is still on there, as is an alleged uncredited appearance by Jim Henson as a "minor" in Ernest Goes to Camp or the many debunked cameo claims (including those here and here). -- Andrew Leal (talk) 04:24, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

You can definitely back them up, that's encouraged even. You *can* play on Windows Media, but they're pretty awful that way (Amazon now also supports just watching from the website, if one wants to save space, and they record the transaction so you can watch any time). -- Andrew Leal (talk) 22:24, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi, you know in the article about Pigs in space. there is a table of sketches. well there isn't one for In the dance( and it would make it look alot nicer.) So i've been working in the sandbox on the first three episodes of season 1.:

I'm not sure if that track listing statement is accurate, since I know that Sesame 8-tracks and cassettes sometimes had the songs in a different order than the records did. Sorry, i wasn't really clear. This is for The Goon Show Wiki. I'll run you through what i'm talking about. First you write the article then you need it to bee categorized into a new category. So you do the wiki markup and type in say Books. Yeah, it's two different formats right now. The long chart is really easier, especially regarding notes on portrayals, but it seems like it would be too long on the page (the idea was to integrate it into Alice in Wonderland in place of the rather dry text there now, but I'm wondering if it would all fit). I thought of trying a side by side comparison, better for the multiple characters and noting which one they came from, but in certain cases, an "N/A" blank or "No Image" is inevitable. So if you have any ideas (I looked around Wikipedia, trying to find a table format that would work and failed), please feel free to play around. I'm floundering right now and basically parked it all there to keep it out of "Unused" until something is worked out. Yep. In fact, according to the Studio System (based on info registered directly by Henson), the logline was this: "As the world nears destruction, an earthling baby is sent to live on Superman's home planet, Krypton." Mahna Mahna

There was an advertisment in the late 1980s/early 1990s for a Canadian Dunkin Donuts commercial involving this song. Since this advertismant was for mini donuts, the song used "Mini Mini" instead of "Mahna Mahna". Any original Muppet song, when referred outside of the world of the Muppets, is a Muppet mention, right?
