Sal Minella Action Figure
From Muppet Wiki
The Sal Minella Action Figure was originally planned as part of Palisades Toys' series seven Muppet action figures. The figural version of Sal Minella was considered for individual release and later as a pack-in with the Johnny Fiama Action Figure. The figure was delayed due to sculpting issues, and moved to series 10. By that point, the Palisades figures were released as exclusives through mail-order partnerships, and the Sal figure was never released. A single unpainted prototype was sold on eBay.
When it was first officially announced, the accessories planned were a Muppet penguin, the Java Muppets (who eventually were included with the Lips Action Figure), and some cheeses, who were quickly replaced by vegetables. Later accessory plans included Robin the Frog and the penguin.
Because the Johnny Fiama action figure had three alternate paint schemes, the Sal figure was going to have two extra color schemes as well. The penguins would have all had something different about them, but eventually only one sculpt was made. Each Robin would have also been different. One of the figures would have had a sitting Robin (which ended up coming with The Rainbow Connection Kermit), one would have had a standing Robin, and the other would have came with a tuxedo Robin (the tux Robin is the only one that wasn't sculpted).
Ironically, Ken Lilly, the product developer for Palisades, once said that when he first told Brian Henson, the performer of Sal, that a Sal Minella figure was planned, the latter asked, "Are you sure you can sell that?"[citation needed]
