"Sad" is a Sesame Street song sung by Little Jerry and the Monotones. The song talks about how it's ok to feel sad and to cry when bad things happen. Little Jerry enumerates some of the things that he's sad about. At the end of the song, Big Jeffy tells him that's it's ok to cry if he feels sad, but that it makes him sad to see Little Jerry so upset. Everybody else in the group feels so sorry for him that they start to cry as well, leading the whole group to break down in sobs while forming a group hug.
- During Big Jeffy's closing verse, he makes a reference to the song "Tears On My Pillow" by Little Anthony and the Imperials.
- Two different takes of the song were filmed (one formerly on Sesame Street's website and the other on their YouTube Channel). In one filmed take (see the attached video to the right), during Big Jeffy's verse at the end, his hat begins to come loose and eventually falls off.
- An abridged version of the song was practiced by Elmo (with help from Big Jeffy and Little Chrissy) in an early 90's episode, when the former fills in for a sick Little Jerry.
