S. H. A. M. P. U. Z. is an invention of Dr. Bunsen Honeydew's at Muppet Labs, intended to radiate hair. When Danvers Blickensderfer tells Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker that he saw a green flash before he transformed into a Muppet, Honeydew suspects it must have been the laser, which he tested when Danvers saw the flash.

Honeydew and Beaker fix the laser, but when they get it aimed at Danvers, his rat Curtis blocks its path and later turns into a giant monster rat. Danvers calls Honeydew while he and Beaker are at the Olive Grotto for help, so after they are done eating, they come with a small prototype of the laser and power it using their leftover fettucine, then zap Curtis when he comes onstage during the Mon Swoon act in the Fall on Ice Festival to wreak havoc. Afterward, Sam the Eagle smells the fettucine energy source.
