The Muppets Mayhem variants

"Rockin' Robin" is performed by Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem in The Muppet Show episode 510. Kermit introduces the song as asking the musical question, "Why are those people sitting in a tree?"

This is one of the two Electric Mayhem songs where Janice sang lead vocals; the other is "With a Little Help from My Friends".

The band performs in a tree, joined by a few birds, including the Rockin' Robin, who was performed by Karen Prell. Animal soloed the enthusiastic line "Tweet, tweet, tweet!"

This version of the song appears on the videos Rock Music with the Muppets (1985) and "It's the Muppets: More Muppets, Please!" (1993).

Footage of The Muppet Show segment plays on a TV in The Muppets Mayhem episode "The Times They Are A-Changin'," which leads to the band trying to do a new recording for their album. They perform the song in different styles including an emo version with Kesha, a reggae version with Ziggy Marley, an EDM version with deadmau5, and a mumble rap version with Desiigner. In "Fortunate Son," the song title is written on a board of track listings for the band's new album, but none of the versions were included in the final version.

Other versions[]

  • The song is featured in the Sesame Street CD-ROM game Music Maker. The song is played during the game's opening, with the Muppet characters seen driving over the sheet music for the tune. A version of the song sung by Ernie is playable in the Studio 456 area of the game.
  • Elmo also sings a brief portion of the song in "Elmo's World: Drawing," when Dorothy imagines him as a bird flying in the sky.
