Richard Pryor (1940-2005) was a groundbreaking and versatile comedian, actor and social commentator.
Pryor recorded several inserts for Sesame Street in the 1970s, including reciting the alphabet (EKA: Episode 0862), talking about parts of the body (EKA: Episode 0989) and demonstrating emotions (with narration by Luis).
In 1979, Pryor made a cameo appearance in The Muppet Movie as a balloon salesman.
- In the 1989 special Miss Piggy's Hollywood, Piggy asks George Wendt to talk about the party where they hobnobbed with Richard, and Wendt asks "Widmark? Pryor? Nixon?"
- In the I Love Muppets documentary, Chris Langham claims he replaced Richard Pryor as a guest on the The Muppet Show because Pryor "blew himself up freebasing."
